6 Keys to Selecting The Right Golf School

There are many criteria to selecting the school that is worthy of the investment, and this is not an exhaustive list.

Key #1) Golfing style

As with any topic or subject matter to learn, golf can be played in many styles. Some play aggressively, others, like me, more conservatively. But ultimately you have to choose a school or instructor that matches you.

Your skills, your personality, your style.

Key #2) Problem areas

I have trouble with slicing. Consistently I find that my shots slice to the right. You, to be sure, have at least one issue with your game or specific shots.    You may want to find a school to address and help correct that shortcoming. If you come back from a long weekend and your slice has vanished, you would have had time (and money) well spent.

Key #3) Instructor to class-size ratio

This is a personal preference item. Some people learn in a group setting (even craze the interaction). It may also depend on what you are trying to gain from the school which one you actually choose.

Key #4) Price

Golf is your life and no amount of money is too much if you improve your game, and thus your enjoyment. For others, big obstacle. If you are considering a golf school then you know that most start above $1500. There are some “big name” instructors offering half day lessons for $10,000.

If you are price sensitive then, by all means, do not forget to add in travel, lodging, and food costs. Many times these “incidentals” can double the overall cost.

Key #5)  Proximity

What is your traveling distance? One plus of keeping tabs on those schools “in your own backyard” is when these offer last-minute specials you can jump on those quickly.

Key #6) Length of training

Like any good consultant would answer, it depends. It depends on whether you are looking for a long weekend, a one day seminar, or wrapping a vacation around your training. This is an important factor in choosing a school so compare wisely.

Five Ways To Enjoy Golf More

Author: ukibas  |  Category: Tips

We all love the game of golf, but some times it is just as they say, a good walk spoiled. Here are a few ways to enjoy golf more.

  • Don’t play the blue tees.

Unless you are at least a 10 handicap or lower, why bother making the golf course even harder than it has to be. If you are shooting in the 90’s or triple digits, it makes no sense making a conscious decision to making the course more difficult.  Play the white tees and take the extra level of anxiety out of the equation.

  • Improve your lie

When you are having a recreational round of golf, there is no way you should be playing the strict rules of golf. The average round of golf would be at least 6 hours at courses all over the world.  Golfers would be returning to the tees all day after hitting there first ball out bounds, or searching for every lost ball for 5 minutes.

So if we are bending the rules to save time, why not bend them to improve your lie, something you can actually benefit from.  Play winter rules all the time.

  • Play different games

Instead playing the same match with your buddies, compete in other categories other than score.  Some examples would be:

Most fairways hit

Least amount of 3 putts

Most 1 putts

  • If it is your honor, take it.

You just birdie the hardest (or easiest) hole on the golf course, it’s your tee, you earned it, take it. Challenge yourself to get another one, you will be surprised how often you can have two birdies in a row if you are actually trying to get  two birdies in a row.

  • Lower your expectations.

If you are a average golfer you play golf twice per week if you’re lucky, on top of that, you don’t practice as much as you should.. You can’t honestly think that your game is not exactly what it should be.

Just enjoy the game itself, don’t be so hard on yourself when you’re not playing well. Even the pros have bad days.

Golfing With a Ball and a Stick is Not Enough

A golfer intent on finding the best golf equipment for the best prices should look at the second hand clubs that are available through different sources. At times, great golf equipment can be found for sale by golfers who have decided to upgrade.

Golfers require several different types of clubs and a variety of each type. Good golf equipment includes a set of woods for hitting from the tee and for other long distance shots. Usually golfers only need the latest golf equipment if they are intent on being competitive, but a good set of woods will help all golfers on the course. The irons will help golfers move further on down the fairway.

Some Golf Equipment Makes Life on the Links More Pleasurable.

Some golf equipment will not necessarily make a golfer better, but it will make the game more enjoyable. A golf cart will make the game less stressful and tiring. Golfers can relax as they ride to their next shot in a nice golf cart.

A great golf bag is a piece of golf equipment that will make the game more enjoyable. Golfers will remain comfortable with a good pair of shoes that help them take the proper stance for all of their shots.

Golf equipment could make a difference in the score recorded at the end of eighteen holes, and golf balls are a most important piece of this golf equipment.

The design of golf balls has evolved from a very simple ball into one that is designed with modern principles of aerodynamics that propel the ball faster and further. Golf balls range in price and each golfer should choose their golf balls with care.

Which Golf Tips Should You Listen To?

There are good golf tips and bad golf tips. The question is, “how do you decide which golf tips to listen to?”

Whenever we play together he is constantly asking for tips and advice about his swing.

It is my belief that you should only give a player a golf tip if you are sure that it will fit in with the rest of his swing. I have seen far too many players lose their swings when trying to adopt a golf tip which simply does not fit in with everything else that goes on when they swing the club.

There are certain golf tips which are universally sound, like, “keep your head still.” The point is that the golf tip didn’t fit in with the rest of his swing.

It is my belief that your aim should be to groove a golf swing that will give you streams of straight and long golf shots by modelling your swing on one set of advice.

Basic Golf Etiquette

golf-etiquette

We all know that the game requires a tee, a ball, and clubs, but few golfers actually take the time to learn the proper etiquette of the game.
Golf is a great game when digested properly and then studied correctly. This article should help you to understand the basics of good golf etiquette.

The members of the foursome or twosome hit in turn.
The closest ball to the green hits last and so on. The golf term for this action is honor.

The ordinary swing of a golf club can be a deadly blow. Therefore, rules
of etiquette are often rules of safety. All clubs, bags, carts and other essentials of the game should be left off the teeing ground.

Don’t practice your swing while other members of your group are hitting, and don’t stand behind the tee. Stay behind the player - to his back. Like the swing of the club, the flight of the ball can be dangerous. If players walk in front of another who is hitting, the distraction could cause a missed shot and the result can be injury to a companion.

Never hold up a group playing behind you. When your ball is in the rough,
Nothing rooted may be removed to allow an easier shot. When it’s virtually impossible to hit your ball, you may declare it unplayable. It is then allowable to pick the ball up, move two club lengths away from the obstacle (not nearer the hole) and drop the ball over
your shoulder. Also, around some clubs players move their balls to a choice spot with their hands. This always pertains to balls in the fairway.

Once you reach your ball and prepare to approach the green, study the lay of the land. Remember, when your ball is hit out of the fairway nothing can be removed to improve the lie of the ball unless it is dead matter. In rough, or woods, players can pick up dead
limbs, leaves, paper or cut grass. But growing bushes, roots, tall grass must remain in place.

As each player shoots the caddy faces them and lifts the stick so that the ball may have freedom of the hole if it has the proper direction. Without caddies, the player in the group with the ball closest to the cup has the obligation on holding the stick for his companions. When his time comes to hit, another member of the party holds the stick for him.

Should another player’s ball be blocking your line to the hole, then you may ask him to mark and remove it. If your ball is in such a position that it might interfere with a player’s approach to the hole, it is always good to ask him if he would like it marked.
Don’t just walk up and grab your ball or the ball of a fellow member of your group.

Some players make the mistake of entering a sand trap by climbing into it from the high side, but a following player may be penalized by having his ball come to rest in one of the deep footprints left behind. Tearing down the sides of traps and then leaving without repairing the damage is an inexcusable breach of etiquette. The ball which lies thegreatest distance from the hole is putted first, and so on down the line until the closest man plays.
Then the process is repeated until the entire group has played the hole out.

Remember, a careful study of the rules of play and etiquette can do more to insure enjoyment than any other one thing. Thousands of tiny, intricate situations can arise in golf.

Improve Your Golf Swing The Easy Way

Author: ukibas  |  Category: Tips
golf-swing

golf-swing

It’s difficult for a golfer to practice hitting shots longer than short pitch shots unless one pays to play golf or pays to practice at a driving range or indoor golf training facility. Putts and short chips are ideally played without much movement of the body, but most other golf shots are played using variants of the full golf swing. Trust your golf club to do the job it was intended to do.

Many golfers who are strongly left-handed in their daily life prefer the right-handed golf swing. Swing slowly and steadily using a nice rhythm. Golf workouts will change your game forever. Conditioning your golf muscles will reward you with straighter swings. Golf aids are often for sale at your pro shop or local golf shop.

There are a number of good golf swing aids on the market today. Sporting goods stores have aids to improve your game.

Golf swing aids can be found online and are often cheaper. Aids come in all shapes and sizes including apparel type accessories to correct alignment or a golf club add-on accessory to monitor your swing. Look for golf swing aids at your local golf course.

There are aids that will help you with swing alignment. Ask an expert, who is not associated with the shop you would buy your golf swing aid from, for advice on the right aid for you.

If you apply both physical and mental workouts, golf swing improvement will be your reward. When you play a round of golf, concentrate on improving your golf swing, putting or something specific that day; have a plan in mind. Invest in a few of the newest golf books and golf ebooks; older golf books may be outdated.

Golf Stretching and Exercises Improving Your Golf Swing

Author: ukibas  |  Category: Tips

swing

Golf fitness stretching and corollary golf exercises are an easy way to improve your golf swing. The utilization of golf exercises within a golf fitness program can enhance many aspects of the golf swing and your golf game.

The amateur golfer can improve their ability to execute the golf swing, complete a full shoulder turn, generate more clubhead speed, and hit more accurate shots with improved flexibility. The process an amateur golfer can improve their flexibility is through golf stretches.

Flexibility refers to range of motion. Increased flexibility is the benefit of stretching. These benefits occur through the elongation (i.e. stretching) of soft tissues (muscles, tendons, ligaments). Golf stretches (i.e. elongating) these muscles alleviates these muscles alleviates these restrictions allowing for the ranges of motion required of the golf swing to develop.

Because the golf swing requires a large range of motion from multiple joints (ankle, hip, thoracic spine, and shoulder), I suggest performing a series of flexibility exercises for the entire body. Many golfers will find “tightness” in the hamstrings, hips, lower, and upper back causing restrictions in their joint range of motions as well as golf swing.

Guidelines to golf stretches are quite simple. In addition to performing golf stretches multiple times per week each exercise should be take each target muscle passively to the point of “tension” and holding the stretch for 30 seconds.

The placement of golf fitness stretches in a golf training program is one step to improvement in your golf swing. If your body lacks the flexibility to perform this requirement of the golf swing, the ability to execute and efficient golf swing will be compromised.
